The Pilgrim's Progress
I designed and created all the costumes for this adaptation of Bunyan’s novel. The characters were divided into those in the ‘world of pen and ink’ (i.e. in Bunyan’s imagination, and in his book), and those in ‘the world of flesh and blood’, the real world. The pen and ink characters were dressed predominantly in white, printed with quotations from the text, and kept strictly monochrome, whereas the real world or historical characters were more realistic and vibrant with flashes of blood red incorporated into each costume.
Every garment had to be as versatile as possible, since only four actors were playing around 30 characters.
