Macbeth Costume and Set

A contemporary take on Shakespeare's Scottish Play, primarily concerned with introducing the play to a young audience. Hence, the designs concentrated on the elements of the story that would most appeal to modern society; ideas of gender ambiguity, the temptation of sin, and the preoccupation with ambition and power.

Since power/domination within gender roles evoke ideas of fetishtic desires and S&M I used fetish wear as inspiration for my designs. I created a hybrid of Elizabethan and contemporary fashion and incorporated UV reactive materials to highlight the theme of darkness versus light found within the play.
